I am currently doing 2 weekends per month of upholstery classes and 1 weekend for roman blinds.
Class costs are £80 per day payable on booking via the website below.
The upholstery workshops run from 10am to 4pm and are held at Dingwall Community Centre. I have 3 people per class so you get lots of time with me and I always aim for the classes to be relaxed and friendly and everyone that comes goes away with new skills and knowledge to start them on their upholstery journey.
You should bring a project such as a footstool or dining chair size which are great first projects, bigger chairs are welcome too but they will take considerably longer in some cases. Your project must have no loose joints and be sound.
I would like to see a picture of your project too to check suitability, you should also bring a new top cover and your lunch. I have tools you can use and materials such as hessian and calico you can purchase, you can bring your own if you wish,
I also bring tea and coffee etc. Each project is assessed, and we take it from there. I will show you how to correctly strip off all the old material, check for problems and decide how much work needs done to ensure a good result, then we will build up layers as necessary (traditional or modern) and finally put on the new fabric and trim.
Every project will be different, some will take a few hours, and some will take a few days. It can help save time if you can take off the top cover before you come.
There are many types of Roman Blinds from basic unlined to hand stitched with interlinings. We will cover the lined, hand stitched and more professional finish blind over 2 days
You will learn:
Choosing fabric and linings
Pattern placement
Measuring and cutting
How to keep your blind square
Hand stitching techniques
Fitting to Cassette
I have prepared Instructions for you to take home too.
This class is limited to 2 people and I provide sewing machines , various linings and all you will need, if you wish to come along please contact me with your measurements and I will order you the cassette.
You will need to bring your fabric and your lunch, I provide tea and coffee but if you wish to bring your own refreshments that is fine.
The cost of the workshop is £190.00 for the 2 day course and is bookable through the website. The cost for the cassette is extra, any materials used such as linings are paid for on the day.
